The original Barley

The story behind Barley

Barley the Hawk was created during the early development of HarvestHawk to give the business a recognisable face, something farmers could connect with instantly.

Growing up in Cornwall, hawks were a constant presence over the fields: watchful, calm, purposeful. That image stayed with our founder James, and when it came time to put a face to HarvestHawk, there was only ever one answer.

With his flat cap, checked shirt, and suspenders, Barley isn't just a mascot. He's a character. He's the kind of presence you'd trust in a farmyard: steady, approachable, and always ready to lend a hand. He's your friend on the farm, happy to answer your questions, and always dressed for the season.

What Barley stands for

Three ideas at the heart of everything HarvestHawk does
🔭
Watchfulness
A symbol of vigilance, mirroring the precision and care we bring to every job. Like a hawk surveying the fields, we see what others miss, and act on it.
🤝
Loyalty
Hawks return to familiar hunting grounds, just as we aim to build long-term relationships with farmers. When you work with HarvestHawk, you're not a one-off job. You're part of the flock.
🛡️
Protection
A steady guardian of the land, reflecting our mission to help farmers protect soil health, yields, and future resilience. Barley watches over your farm the way you do.

When farmers see Barley, they know

The work will be conducted safely and professionally
They can expect honesty, clear communication, and reliability
The service is local, grounded in community values, not a faceless corporate contractor
They're in safe hands, and the job will be done right

Barley at work

When there's a drone in the air, Barley's on the ground, controller in hand, thumbs up, making sure everything's running smoothly. He takes his job as seriously as we take ours.

He reflects the personality of HarvestHawk: approachable, dependable, and rooted in rural life. Not just a logo, but a reassurance.

New Companion

Meet Skye

Every hawk needs a partner in the sky. Skye is Barley's drone companion, always by his side when there's work to be done in the field.

Where Barley represents the calm, grounded traditions of farming, Skye represents the future: precise, capable, and ready to fly. Together, they're a reminder that the best results come from combining trusted instincts with modern technology.

Where the future meets the calm present.

Barley's Eye

When Skye lands, the real work begins. Everything she captures over your fields gets turned into a clear, branded crop report we call Barley's Eye, because nothing gets past him.

Each report pulls your drone mapping data together into one plain-English document you can actually use. You get a quick summary up front, then a full field-by-field breakdown inside. One report per field, per season, always yours to keep.
